PREPARATION 60 Benzyl 3-(Bromomethyl)-1-piperidinecarboxylate The title compound was prepared by the method of Preparation 9 from benzyl 3-(hydroxymethyl)-1-piperidinecarboxylate [Preparation 59] and carbon tetrabromide. The crude product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel eluding with a solvent gradient of 0:100 changing to 80:20, by volume ethyl acetate:hexane, in 10% increments, to afford benzyl 3-(bromomethyl)-1-piperidinecarboxylate as an oil. ¹H-NMR (d6-DMSO) δ: 7.30 (5H, m), 5.00 (2H, s), 4.05 (1H, d), 3.80 (1H, d), 3.40 (2H, m), 2.80-2.60 (2H, m), 1.80 (1H, m), 1.75 (1H, m), 1.60 (1H, m), 1.40 (1H, m), 1.20 (1H, m).
