Stage #2: with hydrogenchloride in methanol;

To a solution of benzyl (l-ethylcyclopent-3-en-l-yl)carbamate (1.3 g, 5.3 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) was added palladium on charcoal (130 mg, 10 %). The reaction mixture was stirred at 50 °C under hydrogen atmosphere overnight. A solution of hydrochloric acid (20 mL, 1 mol/L in- 201 -ATI-2514175vl methanol) was added to the reaction and the reaction mixture was filtered through celite. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude product (900 mg), which was used for the next step without further purification. MS (ESI) m/z = 114.2
