To a solution of the ester from step a (280 mg, 1.3 mmol) dissolved in 4 mL MeOH was added 2.5 mL of 1.0 M NaOH.
After stirring 15 minutes, 6.0 m HCl was added (0.42 mmol, 2.5 mmol), MeOH was removed under reduced pressure, and the white precipitate was collected by filtration and dried in vacuo to obtain 150 mg of the desired acid (57% yield).
