4.3 General procedure for Paal Knorr reaction
General procedure: A mixture of 2,5-hexanedione (1 mmol), amine (1 mmol),and DES (1 mmol), as catalyst/solvent was stirred in aRB flask at room temperature for 5-30 min. Reaction wasmonitored using TLC. After completion of the reaction,appropriate amount of distilled water was added. The residuewas filtered. The reaction profile was very clean andno by-products were formed. The product was analyzed byTLC, GCMS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and melting point measurements(Supporting Information File 1). The reaction was also investigated in the presence of various aminesand the corresponding yield was noted.
