ChemicalBook CAS DataBase List 2,2'-Bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid

2,2'-Bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid synthesis

13synthesis methods
2,2'-Bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid can be used as organic synthesis intermediate and pharmaceutical intermediate, mainly used in laboratory research and development process. 2-chloroisonicotinic acid and sodium hydroxide are dissolved in a mixture of water and methanol. The mixtrue was reacted by palladium as catalyst to give 2,2'-Bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid.

Yield:6813-38-3 85%

Reaction Conditions:

with hydrogenchloride;sodium hydroxide;palladium in methanol;water

Steps:

5 Example 5
Example 5 5.00 g of 2-chloroisonicotinic acid and 2.80 g of sodium hydroxide are dissolved in a mixture of 20 ml of water and 16 ml of methanol. Following the addition of 1.02 g of palladium (10% by weight on activated carbon) as catalyst, the mixture is stirred for 6 h at 80-85° C. at 0.1 MPa. The catalyst is then filtered off. Following acidification to pH 1 using hydrochloric acid, the product, 2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, precipitates out as a white solid. This gives 3.3 g (85% yield).
