Steps:

2-Amino-1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)imidazole (S1t)

To an oven-dried roundbottom flask were added 2-aminoimidazole (404 mg, 1.84 mmol) and1 N NaOH (aq) (4.0 mL) at rt. Then, a solution of Boc2O (700 μL, 2.96 mmol) in anhydrous CH2Cl2 (4.0 mL) was added, and the reaction mixture was stirred for 14 h. Upon completion of the reaction, two phases were separated. The organic layer was washed with water (4 mL),dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated by rotary evaporation. Purification bycolumn chromatography (1:1 hexanes/EtOAc) yielded 1-(Boc) imidazole S1t (376 mg,quantitative yield) as an ivory solid
