Yield:3970-40-9 82%

Reaction Conditions:

with tert.-butylnitrite;copper(l) chloride in acetonitrile at 65; for 3 h;Inert atmosphere;

Steps:

80.1 1. Synthesis of 2-chloro-l -methyl- 3 -nitrobenzene
A solution of 2-methyl-6-nitroaniline (25 g, 0.16 mol) in acetonitrile (300 mL) was added to a solution of ie/ -butyl nitrite (34 g, 0.33 mol, 39 mL) and Cu(I)Cl (24 g, 0.25 mol) in acetonitrile (300 mL). The reaction mixture was then heated to 65 °C under an atmosphere of N2 and was stirred at that temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to ambient temperature, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The crude material was purified by silica-gel column chromatography (petroleum ether/EtOAc, 100:1) to give 2-chloro-l-methyl- 3 -nitrobenzene as a yellow oil (23 g, yield: 82%) 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-i) d: 7.84 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.68 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.50-7.46 (m, 1H), 2.44 (s, 3H).
