4.A; 6.A Step A: Preparation of 2-chloro-6-(methylthio) benzaldehyde
To a solution of 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzaldehyde (0.5 g, 3.15 mmol) in N,N-dimehtyl formamide (8 mL), sodium methanethiolate (0.22 g, 3.15 mmol) was added at 0 °C. The reaction mixture was warmed to 25 °C and stirred over 5 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (10 mL) then extracted twice with ethyl acetate (35 mL). The combined ethyl acetate layer was washed with brine and evaporated under reduced pressure. The obtained crude was purified by combiflash chromatography to obtain 2-chloro-6- (methylthio)benzaldehyde (0.33 g, 1.77 mmo1, 56% yield). MS: m/z = [M+1].
