ChemicalBook CAS DataBase List 2-Methylcyclohexanone

2-Methylcyclohexanone synthesis

13synthesis methods
2-Methylcyclohexanone is manufactured by the catalytic hydrogenation of o-cresol or by the dehydrogenation of o-methylcyclohexanol. Methylcyclohexanones are used in small amounts as general purpose solvents for cellulose-based finishes and coatings.

Yield:583-60-8 95%

Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1:cyclohexanone with bis(trimethylsilyl)amidomagnesium chloride lithium chloride complex at 0; for 0.0833333 h;
Stage #2:methyl iodide

Steps:

The preparation of the bis(trimethylsilyl) amide 33 can be achieved by reacting bis(trimethylsilyl)amine with i-PrMgCl·LiCl at room temperature (see Scheme 5). This base can efficiently be used to deprotonate ketones like e.g. cyclohexanone as can be seen from Scheme 5.
