4.6. Epoxide ring opening under MW irradiations
General procedure: The catalytic activity of 3 for the aminolysis of epoxides was alsoexplored under microwave irradiations [103,104], which reduces thereaction time drastically. As a model reaction, the epoxide ring-openingof styrene oxide with aniline was carried out under microwave irradiation.The reaction was completed in 10 min. under the microwaveirradiation (650 W) on adding catalyst 3 (23 mg, 8.58 wt%) to the neatreaction mixture of styrene oxide (2.2 mmol, 0.25 mL) and aniline (2.2mmol, 0.2 mL). The reaction proceeded with the attack of the nucleophileon the more substituted benzylic carbon leading to the formationof a similar nucleophilic addition product as obtained under normalreaction conditions with 100% yield. The reaction was monitored bythin-layer chromatography in ethyl acetate/hexane solution. The obtainedproducts were identified by GCMS, and data were compared withthe reaction product obtained under normal reaction conditions. Insimilar reaction conditions, the aminolysis of various epoxides with aseries of aromatic amines and heterocyclic amines was carried out,producing the desired product with excellent yield and regioselectivity.Under microwave irradiation, the reaction time reduces up to may foldthan the usual reaction conditions. All the microwave irradiation resultsare listed in the Table (5-8); it shows much higher TOF (h 1) values thanthe reaction performed in normal conditions
