Steps:
Synthesis of β-(N-benzoxazoline-2-thione)propionic acid
A mixture of 1.51 g (10 mmol) of benzoxazoline-2-thione and 1.59 g (30 mmol) of acrylonitrile in 50 ml of water was heated on a water bath at 60-70 °C for 6 h and left for a night. The precipitated crystals were filtered off, squeezed dry, transferred to a round-bottom flask, and 50 ml of concentrated HCl were added to them. The mixture was boiled at 100 °C for 4 h and left for a night. The precipitated crystals were filtered off, washed with water to a neutral reaction, and recrystallized from benzene. The yield of the compound with Tmelt 140-142 °C was 1.89 g (85%).
