P4.2 Step 2. Synthesis of 3-bromo-2-methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazine (P4).
2-Methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazine(C59)(122 mg, 0.916 mmcl) was dissolved in chloroform (2 mL)and treated with N-bromosuccinimide (189 mg, 1.1 mmcl). The resulting mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1.5 hours and then concentrated in vacuo. Silicagel chromatography (Gradient: 33% to 100% ethyl acetate in heptane) afforded the product, still containing some succinimide. This material was dissolved in dichloromethane (25 mL) and washed with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (0.5 M, 3 x 10 mL). The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to afford the product as an off- white solid. Yield: 125 mg, 0.59 mmcl, 64%. LCMS m/z 213.9 (M+H). 1H NMR (400 MHz,ODd3) ? 8.93 (s, 1H), 7.96 (br s, 2H), 2.51 (s, 3H).
