Part A. Preparation of 4-(bromomethyl)-2-fluoro- 1 -nitrobenzene.; [00539] (3-Fluoro-4-nitrophenol)methanol (1.24g, 7.25mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (25mL) and treated with triphenylphosphine (2.281g, 8.70mmol) followed by N-bromosuccinimide (1.548g, 8.70mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2h. Water (5OmL) and dichloromethane (4OmL) were added, and the organic layer was separated and dried. The solution was concentrated under vacuum and purified by column chromatography using silica gel eluting with a 5/1 mixture of hexanes/ethyl acetate to provide the title compound as a solid (1.21%, 75%).
