4.1.4 3-hydroxy-5,6-dimethoxyisobenzofuran-1(3H)-one (9)
Compound 9 was prepared as previously described.33 Compound 8 (6.6g,24.2mmol) was suspended in H2O (60mL). The mixture was heated to reflux and stirred for 1-2h. TLC was used to monitor the reaction. After the reaction was completed, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×40mL). The combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude product 9 as yellow solid (4.9g, 96.3%), mp 173.4-175.8°C (Lit.51 173-176°C).
