EXAMPLE 210 7-Ethoxy-4-hydroxy-quinoline-3-carbonitrile A mixture of 10 g (73 mmol) of 3-ethoxy aniline and 12.3 g (73 mmol) of ethyl (ethoxymethylene) cyanoacetate was heated in 90 ml of Dowther at 140° C. for 7 hours. To this mixture was added 250 ml of Dowtherm. The solution was stirred and refluxed under nitrogen for 12 hours with periodically distilling out the eliminated ethanol. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and the solid was collected and washed with hexane. The crude solid was treated with boiling ethanol and then filtered to give 9.86 g of brown solid: mass spectrum (electrospray, m/e): M+H 214.7.
