Step F Preparation of tert-butyl 8-benzyl-2,8-diazaspiro[4.5]decane-2-carboxylate The product from Step E was dissolved in 30 ml of CH2Cl2. To this solution was added DIEA (5.4 ml, 31.4 mmol), DMAP (12.1 mg, 0.1 mmol), and di-tert-butyl dicarbonate (2.5 gm, 11.5 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. The solvent was evaporated and the residue purified by RP-HPLC yielding 1.4 gm (29%) of the product. MS (ES) 331 (M+H)+
