Reaction Conditions:
with lithium aluminium hydride in tetrahydrofuran at 0 - 20; for 4 h;
Steps:
(4-(4-chlorophenoxy)phenyl)methanol 23:
LiAlH4 (0.78 g, 3.40 mmol) in THF was added dropwise to a solution of 22 (0.79 g, 3.40 mmol) in THF (3 mL) at 0 °C. After the addition was completed, the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 4 h before being quenched with wet Na2SO4. Reaction mixture was diluted with water (20.00 mL) and product was extracted using ethyl acetate (3 x 50.00 mL). The organic portion was collected, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound 23 (0.72 g, 91 %). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3-d) δH 4.58 (s, 2H, CH2OH), 6.82 - 6.88 (m, 2H, ArH), 6.88 - 6.94 (m, 2H, ArH), 7.17 - 7.23 (m, 2H, ArH), 7.23 - 7.29 (m, 2H, ArH).
