Steps:
a a) 4-(9H-Fluoren-9-yl)pyridine
To a solution of diphenyl(4-pyridyl)methanol (135 mg, 517 pmol) in FA (2 mL) was added sulfuric acid (0,8 mL) dropwise. The mixture was heated to 100 °C for 15 minutes, cooled to RT and poured into 20 mL aqueous 5N NaOH solution, which caused the product to precipitate. The product was collected by filtration, to give the product as a light yellow solid (75 mg, 60%). MS (ESI): m/z = 244.2 [M+H]+.
