To a solution of 4-acetylbenzene-1-sulfonyl chloride (10 g, 45.73 mmol) in DCM (50 mL) at 0°C was added a solution of dimethylamine (69 mL of 2M in THF, 0.12 mol). The reaction mixture was heated to a temperature of about 25°C and stirred until complete consumption of the starting material was observed by LC-MS. The reaction mixture was quenched with saturated sodiumhydrogen carbonate (50 mL) and the product extracted with DCM (2 x 75 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with 2 M HC1 (30 mL) and brine (30 mL). The organic portion was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure (9.7 g, 93% yield). LC-MS: tR=l.O7 mi [M+H] =227.9. ‘H NMR (250 MHz, DMSO-d6) 3 ppm: 8.29-8.08 (m, 2H), 7.94-7.8 1 (m, 2H), 2.65-2.61 (m, 9H).
