Steps:
Intermediate 10D. l-(4-Amino-2-bromophenyl)ethanone: To a solution of Intermediate IOC (19 g, 0.077 mol) in EtOH (400 mL) was added in portions tin(II) chloride (74 g, 0.39 mol). Following the addition, the reaction was heated to refluxing temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was then concentrated and the residue was dissolved in 10% aqueous NaOH (200 mL). The aqueous solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (2x200 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine and concentrated to afford an oil. Petroleum ether (25 mL) was added to the oil to afford a suspension that was decanted and the solid was suspended in 20% ethyl acetate/petroleum ether. The organic layer was filtered and the solids were collected to afford 14 g of Intermediate 10D.
