3-4 Example 3: Preparation of 4-aminobutyronitrile (IV)
Into a 500 ml autoclave, add 220 g of methanol, 45.6 g (0.4 mol) of 4-nitrobutyronitrile obtained in Example 1, 0.6 g of 5% palladium-carbon catalyst (water 50%), and replace with nitrogen three times. Stir the reaction at a temperature of 20-25 °C, hydrogen pressure of 2-4 atmospheres for 4 hours, filter to recover the catalyst, wash the filter cake with 20 grams of methanol, and distill the filtrate to recover methanol. Then, distillation under reduced pressure (60-70 °C/5mmHg) gave 32.0 g of colorless liquid 4-aminobutyronitrile with a yield of 95.2% and a GC purity of 99.6%.
