15 (+-)-(2E,4E) N-(1,2-Dimethylpropyl)-5-[trans-2-(3,5-dichloro-4-bromophenyl)cyclopropyl]penta-2,4-dienamide (compound 61)
The above nitrile (5 g) in ether (100 ml) under nitrogen was treated with diisobutylaluminium hydride (22 ml of a 1M solution in toluene). After 18 hours at 25°, 1,4-dioxane (150 ml) and water (10 ml) were added followed by dilute hydrochliric acid (250 ml). After 30 minutes at 25° the mixture was worked up in the usual manner to give 3,5-dichloro -4-bromo benzaldehyde (4.52 g). NMR lH 9.89(1H,s), 7.85(2H,s).
