2.2. Synthesis of 4-chloro-3-sulfamoylbenzoic acid
To a 50mL round-bottomed flask, methyl-4-chloro-3-sulfamoylbenzoate (800 mg, 3.20 mmol) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran(8 mL) and the reaction mixturewas cooled to 0 C. To thisreaction mixture, an aqueous solution of 10percent lithium hydroxide(223 mg, 9.6 mmol) was added and stirred for 2 h at room temperature.After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixturewasevaporated under reduced pressure and the aqueous layer wasacidified with 6N hydrochloric acid. Then the precipitate wasfiltered and dried under vacuum to afford a white solid (610 mg, yield: 81.3percent) 4-chloro-3-sulfamoylbenzoic acid (Scheme 1).Recrystallization has been carried out in ethyl acetate: dry ethylether (3:1) solution by slow evaporation crystal growth techniqueat ambient temperature.1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO‑d6) d: 13.60 (s, 1H, COOH), 8.51 (d,J 2.0 Hz, 1H, Ph-H), 8.10 (dd, J 8.2, 2.1 Hz, 1H, Ph-H), 7.82 (s, 2H,SO2NH2), 7.79 (d, J 8.3 Hz, 1H, Ph-H).
