General procedure: 2-chloro-N-ethyl-6-methylpyrimidin-4-amine is prepared by adding 2 equivalents of ethylamine (2.0M solution in methanol) to 2,4-dichloro-6-methylpyrimidine in dry ethanol in 48 hours. Yield of 2-chloro-N-ethyl-6-methylpyrimidin-4-amine is 45% after purification; additionally 17% of 4-chloro-N-ethyl-6-methylpyrimidin-2-amine are obtained as a side product.
