4-Cyanobenzenesulfonyl chloride (1.77g, 8.78 mmol) was dissolved in 8 mL of anhydrous pyridine and 2-furfurylamine (1.04 g, 9.66 mmol, 0.98 mL) was added. After 2 h, the reaction solutions were added to 100 mL cold water and stirred for 10 min. Filtration and washing with water provided the title compound as a yellow solid (2.04 g, 7.78 mmol, 89%). 'H NMR (300 MHz, CDC13) 8 7.90 (d, J = 8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.75 (d, J = 8. 4 Hz, 2H), 7.18 (s, 1H), 6.19 (m, 1H), 6.10 (m, 1H), 4.95 (m, 1H), 4.28 (d, J = 6.0 Hz, 2H) ppm.
