General procedure to synthesize 4-arylthiazol-2(3H)-ones (at 1 mmol scale)
General procedure: In a round bottom flask benzoyl isothiocyanate (1 mmol) and bromoketone (1 mmol) were dissolved in MeOH (5 mL). Then, 3 drops of water were added and the mixture was refluxed for 19 h. Once the mixture was cooled down, the product precipitated and filtered under vacuum. The filtered mother liquor was evaporated and the residue recrystallized using a 1:1 mixture of CH2Cl2:pentane.
