Step A Ethyl 4-(([(ethoxycarbonyl)amino]carbothioylyamino)benzoate To a solution of ethyl 4-aminobenzoate (38.2 g) in CH3CN (250 ml) there are added ethoxycarbonyl isothiocyanate (30 ml) and diisopropylethylamine (44.3 ml). After stirring for 12 hours at ambient temperature, the precipitate that forms is filtered off and washed with CH3CN and with Et2O and then dried in vacuo to yield the title compound.
