To a solution of 3-ethylpyridin-2-amine (1.0 g, 8.2 mmol, 1 equiv) in l,4-dioxane (10 mL) and water (2 mL) at 0°C was added NBS (1.45 g, 8.2 mmol, 1 equiv). The resulting mixture was stirring at 0°C for 2h. The reaction was diluted with water (50 mL) and extracted with DCM. The organic phase was separated and concentrated. The residue was purified on a silica gel column (hexane/EtOAc) to afford 5-bromo-3-ethylpyridin-2-amine (1.5 g) as a white solid.
