Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1: 5-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acidwith chloroformic acid ethyl ester;triethylamine in dichloromethane at 20; for 1 h;
Stage #2: phenethylamine in dichloromethane at 20; for 2 h;

Steps:

General synthetic procedures of 5-chloro-2-methoxy benzamide derivatives (1-3):

General procedure: Triethyl amine (1.5mL, 10.7mmol) was added slowly to a solution of 5-chloroanisic acid (2.0g, 10.7mmol) in dichloromethane (DCM, 20mL) at room temperature. Ethyl chloroformate (1.02mL, 10.7mmol) was added dropwise to the reaction mixture which was stirred for 1h at room temperature. The appropriate amine (10.7mmol) was added dropwise to the reaction mixture which was stirred at room temperature for further 2h. Distilled water (20mL) was added. The organic layer was separated, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was crystallized from methanol to give benzamide derivatives (1-3)[1].
