e (5-Methyl-isoxazol-3-yl)-methylamine To a solution of the 3-azidomethyl-5-methyl-isoxazole (6.2 g, 44.55 mmol) in isopropanol (100 mL) at rt with vigorous stirring was added triethylamine (12.4 mL, 89.0 mmol), 1,3 propanedithiol (0.45 mL, 4.5 mmol)) and sodium borohydride (1.7 g, 44.5 mmol). The mixture was then stirred at rt. After 19 hours 0.5 eq more of NaBH4 (850 mg, 44.5 mmol) was added and stirred at rt for 7 hours more. Then the solvent was evaporated under vacuum and the residue was then dissolved in 10% aqueous citric acid (10 mL) and washed with ether/hexane 1:1 (3*150 mL). The aqueous layer was basified with aqueous NaOH 6 N until pH 12, saturated with NaCl, and extracted with DCM (4*200 mL) The combined DCM extracts were dried and concentrated to leave the title compound as a colorless liquid (4.4 g, 87%). m/z 112.0 (M).
