Steps:

5-Methylpyrogallol 1:
Atranol (0.152 g, 1 mmol) and sodium percarbonate (0.236 g, 1.5 mmol) weredissolved in THF/water 3:7 mixture (5 mL). The reaction mixture is then stirred at room temperaturefor 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, aqueous 0.1 M HCl solution was added (5 mL) and themixture extracted with EtOAc (2x10 mL). Organic layers were pooled and dried over MgSO4, filtratedand concentrated in vacuo. An orange solid was obtained (0.119 g, 85%).
