Steps:
To a solution of Cap-2 step b (isomer 2) (480 mg, 2.015 mmol) in 4 mL of MeOH was added KOH (4 mL, 2.015 mmol) (10% aq.). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was then extracted with CH2Cl2 (3X). The combined organic layers were dried with MgSO4 and concentrated to afford Cap-2 step c (220 mg) as a light yellow solid. 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 4.41 - 4.54 (1 H, m), 2.38 - 2.50 (2 H, m), 1.89 - 1.99 (2 H, m), 1.81 (2 H, dd, J=14.50, 5.04 Hz).
