Example 35 STEP 1 : To a solution of 1-Boc-3-oxo-piperazine (Example 29, Step 1; 0.15 g, 0.75 MMOL), iodobenzene (0.070 ml, 0.63 MMOL), N, N'-dimethylethylenediamine (0.007 ML, 0.063 mmol) and potassium phosphate (0.27 g, 1.3 mmol) in toluene (1 ML) was added copper iodide (6.0 mg, 0.031 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated to 80 °C for 5 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to 25 °C, diluted with CH2CI2 (25 ml) and filtered through a plug of silica using 40% EtOAc/Hexane as eluent to give 0.10 g (58%) of the product as a white solid.'H NMR (CDC13, 300 MHz) 8 7.44-7. 39 (m, 5H), 4.26 (s, 2H), 3.79-3. 74 (m, 4H), 1.50 (s, 9H). MS (ESI) M/E 276.9 (M+H) +.
