Steps:
4.1.3 Preparation of 3-phenyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]pyridine (4)
CF3COOH (0.65mL, 8.36mmol) was added drop wise to a stirred solution of compound 3 (0.6g, 1.67mmol) in CH2Cl2 (10mL) at 0°C, and allowed to stir at room temperature for 4h. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the crude residue was washed with hexanes and diethyl ether to get compound 4 (0.45g, 91%) as an off-white solid. ESI-MS showed 200 [M+H]+. 1H NMR (300MHz, DMSO-d6): 7.38-7.10 (m, 5H), 4.22 (s, 2H), 3.45 (t, J=7.2Hz, 2H), 2.61 (t, J=7.8Hz, 2H).
