[00319] A mixture of 6.2 g thioamide in 158 ml. 4% NaOH solution was treated with 20.8 g of potassium ferricyanide. The solid disappeared and a new precipitate formed. The reaction was stirred another hour. Workup provided 4.9 g of 2-methyl-7-nitro-1 ,3-benzothiazole.
