(b) bis(α:2-Dichlorobenzylidene)hydrazine Phosphorus pentachloride (443.5 g) in 1,2-dichlorobenzene (850 ml) was heated to 110°. N,N'-bis(2-chlorobenzoyl)hydrazine (164.7 g) was added in portions to the stirred solution. The addition over the mixture was stirred and heated at 110° for 1 hour. At the end of this time the excess phosphorus pentachloride and 1,2-dichlorobenzene were distilled off under reduced pressure to leave a viscous oil which solidified. The crude solid was recrystallized from methanol (2x) to give 58.0 g of bis(α:2-dichlorobenzylidene)hydrazine as a white crystalline solid, m.p. 105°-107°.
