To a stirred solution of A/-Boc-(S)-ornithine(Cbz)-OH (10.0 g, 27.0 mmol) and /V-hydroxysuccinimide (3.45 g, 30.0 mmol) in ethyl acetate (100 mL) at 0 °C was added Λ/,Λ/'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (5.90 g, 28.0 mmol) in one portion, and stirring was continued overnight during which the mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature. The resulting suspension was filtered through Celite and the filtrate was concentrated to afford A/-Boc-(S)-ornithine(Cbz) /V-hydroxysuccinimide ester as a colourless gummy semi-solid (9.74 g, 78 %) which was used without further purification.
