Procedure for the base mediated Synthesis of Dinaphtho[2,1-b:1',2'-d]furan
An oven-dried 5 mL screw-capped vial was charged with 1m(2,2'-dimethoxy-1,1'-binaphthalene) (31.4 mg, 0.10 mmol), KOtBu (89.7 mg, 0.80 mmol), andDMF (1.0 mL) under a gentle stream of nitrogen. The vessel was then sealed and heated at190 °C for 18 h. The mixture was cooled to rt and filtered through a short pad of silica gel,eluting with EtOAc. The eluent was evaporated to give a residue, which was purified by flashchromatography (hexane/DCM = 10/1) to give 2m (dinaphtho[2,1-b:1',2'-d]furan) as a whitesolid (19 mg, 70%).
