Esfenvalerate synthesis

3synthesis methods
Esfenvalerate is commercially produced through stereoselective synthesis of the active (S)-isomer of fenvalerate, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. The process involves esterification of (S)-alpha-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol with (2S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylbutyric acid. This reaction yields esfenvalerate, which is more biologically active than the racemic mixture found in fenvalerate.
