206.1 Step 1: ethyl l,4-dimethyl-lH-pyrazole-5-carboxylate
Into a 100-mL 3-necked round-bottom flask purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of nitrogen, was placed ethyl 4-methyl-lH-pyrazole-5-carboxylate (3 g, 19.46 mmol, 1 equiv.), DIAD (7.9 g, 38.92 mmol, 2 equiv.), THF (30 mL), and MeOH (3.1 g, 97.30 mmol, 5 equiv.), and ΡΡ1 (10.2 g, 38.92 mmol, 2 equiv.) was added at 0 °C. The resulting solution was stirred for 5 h at 25°C and then concentrated under vacuum. The residue was applied onto a silica gel column and eluted with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (1 :50) to give the title compound as a yellow liquid in76.38% yield.
