Steps:

2-acetylbenzofuran (1 mmol), diethyl oxalate (2 mmol), and sodium ethoxide (5 mmol) were dissolved in 5 ml of anhydrous THF and reacted at room temperature for 2 h. TLC detection, after the reaction was completed, the reaction solution was poured into n-hexane, and the precipitate was collected. Add 20ml of 10% hydrochloric acid solution, stir for 30min, filter, wash with water, and dry. The resulting solid was dissolved in ethyl acetate. The crude product was reprecipitated with n-hexane to give ethyl 4-(2-benzofuranyl)-2,4-dioxobutyrate intermediate (1). (80% yield)
