Steps:

General procedure for reduction
General procedure: To a solution of compounds 3 or 4 (1 equiv.) in 4 mL ethanol was added NaHB4 (3 equiv.) at 0 oC. The reaction mixture was performed under stirring at room temperature until disappearance of the starting material. The reaction was quenched by pouring the medium onto water (2 mL) followed by an extraction with EA (3 x 15 mL). The EA layers were combined and washed with brine (20 mL), dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude product. This latter was purified to CC eluted with hex: EA (90:10; v/v and 60:40; v/v) to afford compound 5 (80 %) or 6 (21 %) as white amorphous solids. The chemical characterization was based on NMR analysis and confirmed with literature data (Betancor et al. 1980; Khan et al. 2014).
