Steps:
1a.1 methyl I -phenylcyclopropanecarboxylate
Step 1: 1 -phenyl-1 -cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (10.0 g, 61 .66 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (150 mL). 4 M HCI in dioxane (10 mL)was added and the mixture was heated to 50°C for 20h. The reaction mixture was concentrated todryness. EtOAc and sat. NaHCO3 solution was added and the two phases werepartitionated. The organic layer was dried over Mg504, filtered and the solution concentrated to dryness to afford methyl 1-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylate Ex.29a (10.55 g, 97%) as colourless oil. The compound was pure enough andused in the next step without further purification.
