Steps:
7 6.7. Methyl 2-(4-chlorosulfonylphenyl)acetate (9)
In a clean and dry seal tube, compound 8 (2 g, 10.2 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous DCM (30 mL) and to this was added KNO3 (2.60 g, 24.14 mmol) followed by TMSCl (3.03 mL, 24.14 mmol). Mixture was heated at 50 °C for 12 h, then cooled to room temperature and filtered to remove solid. The residue was washed with DCM and combined filtrate was washed with water, brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 9 (2.0 g, 73%).
1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 3.70 (s, 3H), 3.75 (s, 2H), 7.53 (d, J = 8.8 Hz, 2H), 7.98 (d, J = 8.8 Hz, 2H).
