Yield:57498-54-1 100%

Reaction Conditions:

with sulfuric acid at 70; for 5 h;

Steps:

1 Step 1: Synthesis of methyl 4-oxo-4-(p-tolyl)butyrate(Intermediate 142)

Add 4-oxo-4-(p-tolyl)butyric acid (4.5 g, 23.4 mmol) in a dry 100 ml round bottom flask at room temperature, methanol (50 mL) and sulfuric acid (1 mL). The reaction was stirred at 70 degrees Celsius for 5 hours. The solvent was spun off, water (50 mL) was added, and the mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (50x 3). Combine the organic phases, wash with saturated sodium chloride, and dry with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filter, the filtrate was concentrated to obtain the product methyl 4-oxo-4-(p-tolyl)butyrate (Intermediate 142) (4.8 g, yellow oil), yield: 100%.
