To 6-nitro-lη-benzo[d]imidazole (0.2 g, 1.226 mmol) was added ethanol (20 mL), cone. HCl (0.5 mL), 10% Pd/C (50 mg). The mixture was hydrogenated at 50 psi. After 1 h, the reaction mixture was filtered through Celite and concentrated to afford 59A (0.133 g, 64% yield) as a tan solid. LCMS m/z l34.0[M + H]⁺.
