7.3 General procedure for the synthesis of 8
General procedure: To a 100ml three neck flask equipped with thermometer was added naphthalen-2-amine (2g, 13.97mmol, 1 eq.), THF (20ml), NaHCO3 (1.41g, 14.67mmol, 1.2 eq.) and cooled to 0°C. Then a solution of phenyl chloroformate (1.84g, 14.67mmol, 1.05 eq.) in THF (10ml) was added dropwise under 5°C. The reaction was monitored by TLC. After completion of the reaction, THF was removed by evaporation under reduced pressure. The aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl acetate (50+25ml). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (20ml), dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure to give 3.5g brown solid, which was subjected to crystallization in EA:PE (1:2/v:v, 45ml) to give 3g off-white solid (yield 81.5%).
