(S)-3-Amino-pentanoic acid methyl ester (70) To a stirred solution of 3-amino-pentanoic acid (69) (1.0 g, 8.54 mmol) in anhydrous methanol and benzene (1:1, 14 mL) at 0° C. under a nitrogen atmosphere, TMS-diazomethane (Aldrich) (2.0 M in Hexanes, 10.7 mL, 21.3 mmol) was added dropwise. The resulting mixture was allowed to warm to 25° C., stirred for 1 h, and then concentrated in vacuo to give the desired product, (S)-3-amino-pentanoic acid methyl ester (70) (1.10 g, 99% yield) as a colorless oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 0.96 (t, 3H, J=7.2 Hz), 1.50 (m, 2H), 2.48 (m, 2H), 3.13 (m, 1H), 3.71 (s, 3H).
