Steps:
Zinc benzoate (1a) was prepared by dropping the aqueous solution of sodium benzoate (17 mmol, 2.44 g) to the aqueous solution of zinc chloride (8.5 mmol, 1.16 g) at stirring and heating (60-70 °C). The powder of zinc benzoate was precipitated from solution almost immediately. Precipitate was filtered off, washed with water and dried in the opened air. The yield of zinc benzoate was 70%.
