Monosodium phosphate (MSP) is an inorganic compound of the elements sodium and phosphate counterion, which is often found in dental products, such as toothpastes and mouthwash related to its property of restoring lost enamel and preventing disease of the teeth and gums. It also finds application in medical use as a stimulant laxative before some operations and medical procedures. Besides, monosodium phosphate is also employed in food additive, like animal feed and evaporated milk, in which it serves as a thickening agent and emulsifier and provides the phosphorous supplement in the diet. It is also a common industrial chemical and chemical reagent used for detecting magnesium ions and adjusting the PH value.
